What is the Media Aware high school study?
Media Aware is a cutting-edge and comprehensive sexual health education program for high school students. For three years, our researchers, graphic designers, and programmers have worked to create an engaging and effective web-based sexual health program for students–and now we need your help! The development of Media Aware and the Media Aware High School Study have been funded under grants from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The purpose of this study is to continue evaluating Media Aware. To do this, we want to give you and your 9th and/or 10th grade students free access to the program and get your feedback. Media Aware has been shown to improve adolescents’ sexual health outcomes. You and your students can help us ensure that Media Aware is as fun, informative, and effective as possible.
We are now enrolling a limited number of teachers to help us further evaluate Media Aware during the 2019-2020 school year.
What will teachers do?
Review Media Aware and administer the program to students during class (students will need access to computers with internet connectivity).
Help researchers with distributing and collecting parent permission and student assent forms for the research study.
Complete an online questionnaire about their experiences using Media Aware.
Refrain from teaching other sexual health or media literacy education lessons for the duration of the study (approximately three/four months).
What will students do?
If they choose to participate, students will answer three confidential online questionnaires during class.

Free access to Media Aware for your students
Up to $250 for teachers
Up to $1,000 for schools
Small gifts (e.g., pen, earbuds) and entry into a drawing for a $50 gift card for students

Please note: We cannot guarantee participation for all schools. External factors such as school district permissions and travel distance may also influence eligibility in the Media Aware High School Study.
